The appalling statistics of Nepalese workers dying in Qatar raises the age old problem of who is my neighbour.
If these were UK workers the papers would be full of it – if they were Scottish workers the National would be from cover to cover and BellaCaledonia would censored for its language.
So who is my neighbour: Kant and Rawls would come out strongly for everyone but Aristotle would be much more cautious – after all Athens relied on its slaves; although by all accounts they were treated relatively decently compared with the Nepalese in Qatar.
Anyone interested in the debate can find out more by going to the Michael Sandels Philosophy series and watching in particular the last in the series - episode 12
